“You are God’s chosen treasure” 1 Pet 2:9 TPT

(emphasis added)

I was recently reading a little devotional by Sheri Rose Shepherd entitled His Treasure: Gems of Love from Your King. It is a collection of prophetic letters from God to us, and in this particular reading there was this, “You are my chosen one; you are set apart; you are My beloved; you are precious to Me. If there is anything other than this truth in you, it is not from Me. Now is the time to let go of the lie and to walk in your true identity!”  This really struck a chord in my heart...Now is the time to let go of the lies and walk in your true identity - you are chosen, you are set apart, you are loved, you are precious to God...That is the truth.

In Ephesians chapter 1 verses 4 & 5 we read, “And He chose us to be His very own, joining us to Himself even before He laid the foundation of the universe...For it was always in His perfect plan to adopt us as His delightful children...” Can you get your head around that?  God chose you, before you had faith, before you became a Christian, before you were born, before He even began the work of creating the world ... You were already on His mind, in His thoughts and being planned for, before creation!!! You were already that important to Him, and it was at that point that He chose YOU.

Jesus said, “You didn’t choose Me.  I chose you.”  (John 15:16 NLT) We are chosen solely by Christ, not because of anything you did or didn’t do, but because He has loved you since the creation of the world. As Deut 7:6-8 says ‘The Lord set His love on you and chose you...because He loves you’ (paraphrased). You have been chosen to be loved by God, chosen to be adopted into His family, chosen to be His friend. It is not just something that he has done for you, it is a part of your true identity.

An Invitation
I would like to invite you to spend some time meditating on 1 Peter 2:9, “You are a chosen people...God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light”. Read it slowly and ask the Holy Spirit to give you a greater understanding of how this relates to your identity.  Then can I encourage you to respond to all that God has done for you through worship.  Click on the link below and use this song, ‘I am who you say I am’, to praise God.  Praise Him that you are chosen, Praise Him that you are loved, Praise Him that He purposed you to be with Him...before the foundation of the world.
